Village life, just beyond the gates

Laparade itself is a quintessential French bastide village, peaceful and atmospheric, with a fascinating history stretching back centuries. Louis IX famously bequeathed the village to his brother, Alphonse de Poitiers, and its historic character remains wonderfully intact. For most of the year, life here moves at an unhurried pace.

However, on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer, everything changes. The village’s Marché Nocturne takes place directly outside Maison Laparade’s front gates. Simply step outside with a basket, a tablecloth and, of course, your wine glasses, and you are suddenly part of the evening.

Local food, wine and live music fill the village as the market comes alive. It is an irresistibly French experience: informal, convivial and entirely uncontrived. And for families, the music finishes promptly at 11pm, with the market packed away swiftly afterwards.

Discover an undiscovered corner of France

Lot-et-Garonne remains one of south-west France’s best kept secrets.

Less crowded than the neighbouring Dordogne, it is a landscape of gently rolling countryside, ancient bastide villages, elegant restaurants and atmospheric cafés. Summer here feels wonderfully relaxed, without the crowds that can overwhelm some of France’s more famous destinations.

For the adventurous, there is canoeing, cycling and hiking through the surrounding countryside, while golf enthusiasts will find an extensive course just ten minutes away.

For everyone else, there is the rather more important business of enjoying France properly: long lunches, local markets, beautiful villages, excellent restaurants, wine and cheese tasting, and the simple pleasure of an afternoon spent beside the pool.

The perfect French escape

Whether you come with family, a group of friends or simply want to experience the romance of an historic French home, Maison Laparade offers something increasingly rare: space, privacy, character and a genuine sense of place.

This is not a resort. It is not a hotel.

It is your own private château, perched above the Lot Valley, with a village beyond the gates and the very best of rural France waiting to be discovered.

Come for the views. Stay for the house. Leave wishing you could stay forever.
